ORGANIZATIONAL AWARENESS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Involving ourselves in certain organization is absolutely important for everyone in the world, even in a smallest group of society, called family. Of course, there are several things we can do by ourselves. But the works, usually become lighter when other people helps. And the time needed to do it becomes shorter. As an example, a big stone which blocks our path to a destination we are heading to should be removed by more than a single person. If not, it would be very hard, maybe impossible, and very expensive (if we rent a super duper hi-tech tools). So, it is undisputable that we need organization as long as we live our life.
In the context of campus life, the involvement of students in the student’s body (organization) is less than what is expected. Mostly think that being in organization is just wasting energy, money and time. The worse is, there are some lecturers who do not permit the students to attend an organization. This is, I think, very controversial to what laws and the rules suggests.
Radically, many students assume that the activities in it refraining them from finishing their study on time. Whereas, if the students are aware, organization is relatively the best bridge in order to be successful in gaining the highest academic achievement in the university. Because, for me personally, what I get from the lecturer-attended class is not enough. Moreover, it is not contextually related to what are needed in real life (job field). We get it from organization.
Usually, issues discussed in the organization are more up to date than what we get from the lecturer-attended class. Nevertheless, we must keep in our mind that being in organization is based on the so-called take and give principle. Like, what John F. Kennedy said, “Don’t ask what you can have from organization but ask yourself what you can give for organization. This line is similar to what Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” And if we are Christian, we also know what is stated in the bible which says “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
As person, a part of the society, we have social responsibility. Being socially responsible is a simple sentence. But it is beyond than just a well-structured word. It has to be applied where we live. For, being socially responsible means that people and organizations must behave ethically and with sensitivity toward social, cultural, economic and environmental issues. Striving for social responsibility helps individuals, organizations and governments have a positive impact on development, business and society with a positive contribution to bottom-line results.
So, as a student of UNIMA, we should ask ourselves whether we have such a quality in our life. We need to take a part in every action which contributes good things for other people. Are we sensitive with the surrounding, environment or we just stay calm without paying any attention to it? Don’t wait until it comes to you, but you critical in seeing the condition and situation. And your reaction determines what quality what, you care about it or not.
The quotation below confirms that:
All Social responsibility, both individual and corporate, is voluntary; it is about going above and beyond what is called for by the law(legal responsibility). It involves an idea that it is better to be proactive toward a problem rather than reactive to a problem. Social responsibility means eliminating corrupt, irresponsible or unethical behavior that might bring harm to the community, its people, or the environment before the behavior happens.
It is expected your involvement in certain organization make you learn a lot of things to be used not just for yourself but for other people as well. So, if I may suggest you, I should say that it necessary to take part in organization that you can dig thousand tons of knowledge and insights which are hopefully will be beneficial to society.
